Office of the Skywarn Coordinator

Welcome Everyone:

The Sherburne County SKYWARN Team is starting out the 2010 storm season under new management. As of April 2010, Greg Shartle has assumed the roll of SKYWARN Coordinator. Greg has held the position of Deputy SKYWARN Coordinator for the past two years, and is well qualified to fill this new position. He has a close working relationship with not only Sherburne County Emergency Services, but also with the National Weather Service Officials in Chanhassen.

Sherburne County SKYWARN volunteers include local businessmen and women, students, government employees, military personnel, skilled laborers, retired civilians and even military retirees, all of whom have a dedication to providing public service.

The Sherburne County Skywarn Service provides real-time weather spotting within Sherburne County, to the Cities of Becker, Big Lake, Elk River, Orrock, Princeton, Santiago, St. Cloud, Zimmerman,  and various other Sherburne County communities.

During times of emergency, when the National Weather Service office in Chanhassen, MN requests, our federally licensed radio operators (ham radio operators) are able to provide severe weather spotter reports directly to the National Weather Service via ham radio. We also provide severe weather spotter reports directly to the Sherburne County Sheriff, Office of Emergency Services, when requested.

The Sherburne County SKYWARN Team operates primarily on the Elk River repeater (146.970 - ) which is owned by Mr. Jon Krizek (K0CJD).
